Industrial Forestry Service Ltd (IFS) and its affiliated companies have been serving resource-based industries for 53 years. These industries include mining, oil and gas, forestry and government agencies (Provincial and Federal).
Manage and supervise stream crossings and riparian areas to comply with B.C riparian requirements. IFS has road, seismic line and pipeline survey crews who can carry out stream crossing inventories, identify and classify streams and riparian areas and supervise stream crossing construction activities to protect riparian areas and values
Manage exploration activities (utilize best management practices) for minimal impact to the forested landbase (identify concerns associated with ungulate winter range, old grow management areas, wildlife tree patches and riparian reserves)
Coordinate and integrate upstream activities with forest industry activities to decrease exploration costs and minimize environmental impact (e.g. coordinate road access and develop road use agreements),
Conceptual designs and gradient drawings for bridges and culverts over stream crossings,
Design and supervise road deactivation activities,
Provide expert guidance for minimal impact seismic operations to qualify for stumpage reductions of half the normal rate (ensure average construction width, line-of-site for wildlife management and impacted timber meet allowable maximums),
Geotechnical Engineering and terrain stability assessments, and
Visual quality assessments.
The British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission (BCOGC) is moving towards a "performance-based" initiative with the oil and gas industry where the focus will be placed on auditing end results (compliance and enforcement) rather than procedures to achieve end results. This means that the oil and gas industry must have internal quality assurance programs to ensure systems and procedures are in place and effectively implemented to achieve all BCOGC requirements.
IFS has developed a Quality Assurance Assessment to test an organization's readiness for the BCOGC "performance-based" initiative. The assessment process would be customized to meet your needs and potentially includes the following types of evaluations:
Staff and service provider awareness of internal and external requirements,
How operational risk of planning, exploration and construction activities is documented, quantified and managed to decrease cost, minimize environmental impacts and increase due diligence,
Development and implementation of due diligence and best management practices, to minimize non-compliance,
Coordination of activities with other resource industries to reduce costs,
Effectiveness of internal teamwork, training, documentation, communication, accountability and supervision,
Effectiveness of standard operating procedures and quality assurance monitoring to ensure compliance and conformance,
How specialists are utilized, and
Effectiveness of continual improvement practices.
After the assessment, IFS can deliver quality assurance workshops to appropriate personnel if quality assurance improvements are needed.
IFS can also help to implement a quality assurance program by acting as a coach for managers, supervisors, employees and contractors.
Road location layout, geomatic road designs, vertical and horizontal alignment, earthworks, etc.
Grass seeding for site rehabilitation/reclamation. IFS is in the process of growing native grasses at its Ness Lake nursery to supply seed for rehabilitation/reclamation starting in 2006, and
Tree planting for site rehabilitation/reclamation or carbon credits. IFS also grows native tree seedlings at its Ness Lake nursery.
Organize and complete the General Development Permit process to BCOGC standards:
Complete letters of intent and applications,
Coordinate and document First Nations, community, and stakeholder consultation,
Complete GDP Timber Harvesting and Field Assessment forms (includes timber cruising and timber appraisal services), and
Prepare GDP area maps
GPS traversing,
Complete Stream Crossing Data forms,
Organize and manage the referral process to forest tenure holders on crown land (includes completing Forestry Review and Major Licensee Comment Sheets),
Complete Range Tenure Notification,
Timber Harvesting and Field Assessment and amendments (includes applications for road use permits and use of water),
Completion/submission of pipeline and wellsite As-Cleared Plans and Geophysical Final Plans, and
Prepare Site Plan amendments when development passes through forest tenure cut blocks.
IFS can coordinate, supervise and implement the timber utilization process to BCOGC and Ministry of Forests standards for all timber clearing operations to provide maximum economic benefit:
Carry out a reconnaissance to assess timber merchantability and value,
Determine the least cost stumpage option (area or cruise-based) for small volume utilization,
Cruise timber to determine volume where cruise-based stumpage is being assessed,
Ensure harvesting does not exacerbate barkbeetle problems,
Notify appropriate parties of any unsalvaged wood and ensure unsalvaged wood is disposed of to Ministry of Forests standards,
Submit volume of wood not utilized as well as gross area of plantation or immature stands to the Ministry of Forests, and
Supervise harvesting to minimize waste (unutilized wood) to avoid a Ministry of Forests waste assessment.
